Snippets from ‘The Protector’

Hey guys! Today I thought I would share with you some snippets from The Protector. I am hard at work editing it. It isn’t coming along as nicely as I would like, I am basically rewriting it from scratch and it is just a shell of a story right now. Which I must confuse is/was a bit discouraging. But the only way I can make it better is by keeping up with the writing! ๐Ÿ˜€

First I want to share with you the cover I have for The Protector. It probably won’t be the cover on the book when it gets published, but it is what I have now. ๐Ÿ™‚

First, my opening line. ๐Ÿ™‚

‘I sat squashed in the middle seat of our car, again.’ย

Onto the rest of the snippets, enjoy!

‘When Grandpa died, I didn’t think I was ever going to be happy again. I missed him. He was the best Grandpa I had. Every summer I would go to Grandma’s and Grandpa’s house. Grandpa and I would spend our days in his workshop either building something, or eating more ice cream than was good for us.’

‘Like I said before, the tavern was dirty and small. I figured it would be a good place to look for a criminal. And I was not wrong I met one immediately after I opened the door.

The criminal was a small youth of about eight or nine. He had sandy blonde hair and caramel brown eyes; making him quite a cut fellow, especially with the freckles that were spread liberally across his nose and cheeks.

“Halloo, miss,” He said gaily, smiling. His smile revealed a row of crooked teeth, withย  couple missing here and there.

I grinned as I looked down at his innocent little face. How could a young fellow like himself be a criminal? He was probably a poor little orphan, who made money by greeting the people as they walked into the tavern. An admiral job I am sure.

“Hello. Who are you?” I asked, still grinning at him.

“I am Siamese.” He said, his smile widening.’

‘I slowly closed my eyes, as if that would make the strangers disappear. But when I opened my eyes again, nothing had changed, except that the boy had stopped laughing. I took a deep breathe and slowly released it.

“Who are you?” I asked, struggling to keep my voice calm.

The boy sat up, and ran his fingers through his hair, knocking dirt, grass and leaves out of it.

“I am Jonathan, and this is my twin sister, Anna.”

‘Crystle opened her minds for Anna and we spent the whole journey back to the mainland chatting about girly things. Well, as many girly things as you can chat about with a dragon. This was surprisingly enough, a lot.’

“Who says? I don’t have to listen to you.” Siamese said. “I will go if I want to.”

Sir David glared at him. “I can have you arrested. I am a knight.”

Siamese blew a raspberry at him.

‘That night Anna sang me to sleep, while she cradled me gently in her arms. It was the first time anyone had showed they cared about me since Grandpa died, and it felt wonderful.’

And that is it! Which one was your favorite?
